Caring For Ceramic Tile
Glazed ceramic tile usually requires less maintenance than most other types of floors used in most home environments. Glazed ceramic tile never needs a wax or polish to bring back it's shine. Just be sure to keep sand and grit off of the tile, this could scratch the glazing over a period of time. For general tile floor care follow these steps:
  • Sweep, or vacuum glazed tile regularly.
  • Wash regularly to remove dirt and grit with a mild, diluted detergent solution. Most household detergents, such as Mr. Clean or Spic & Span, as well as many other found in the supermarkets may be used. When in doubt consult the tile manufacturer's cleaning recommendations.
  • Stay away from ammonia based cleaners, they may discolor your grout. Also, do not clean glazed tiles with oil-based cleaners.
  • After cleaning with a mild detergent rinse thoroughly with clean, warm water to help remove any leftover residue. If needed wipe dry with a clean towel to remove any film.
  • For soft water situations you may need to use an all purpose cleaner, such as Fantastic, or Top Job. Apply to the floor, let stand for 3 - 5 minutes than lightly scrub with a sponge and rinse well.
General Grout Care
Shortly after installation and once the tiles have been cleaned and thoroughly dried:
  • Non-epoxy grout joints should be treated with a silicone sealer.
  • Sealing the grout joints right away will help reduce maintenance in the future.
  • Grout manufacturers generally recommend re-sealing the grout joints twice a year to ensure stain protection.
