Thank you for purchasing your new floor from us! Please take
a few minutes to read this information that we’ve prepared
that will help you get the most from your purchase. If you have
any questions, don’t hesitate to call us!
Heating
To be ensured that your new flooring can be properly installed
please be sure to have you the temperature of your home at a minimum
of 65 degrees at lease 24 hours before and after the installation
as well as during the installation.
Cabinets & Table Tops
We know how much people like to display their crystal, porcelain,
China and other breakables in their cabinets, hutches, and on
top of tables. So we ask that you remove anything that may fall
during the installation process so that it’s not to interfere
with your installation.
Walls
Please remove draperies or tie them back at least 36” from
the floor. Pictures, low hangings, and floor-length draperies
may interfere with the installers’ movements. Remove all
pictures or paintings in all hallways due to tight quarters.
Old Flooring
The removal of old flooring is often necessary and it can take
a considerable amount of time. We can provide this service with
charges based on the amount of time spent on the job. If your
old vinyl flooring contains asbestos, however, you will need to
contact a licensed asbestos removal company to remove any vinyl
flooring you may have. Your sales professional will be glad to
assist you in locating such a company.
Closets
Closets and storage areas need to be cleared, and long-hanging
clothing needs to be removed so that there is a 36” space
above the floor to enable the installers to work freely.
Doors
After your new flooring has been installed, it may be necessary
to trim the bottoms of some doors in order to accommodate possible
changes in height. We will be happy to recommend the proper professional
to administer this service.
Furniture
We will gladly handle moving your regular furniture during the
installation. This service can be arranged through your sales
professional and will require an additional charge. Please note
that pool tables, grand pianos, and wood stoves must be moved
by professionals and should be taken care of prior to installation.
Aquariums, waterbeds, grandfather clocks, and console pianos are
some items that require special handling. For items like these,
consult your sales professional.
Appliances & Electrical Equipment
Some appliances may require special handling. Arrangements for
disconnections and hookups of ice makers, gas appliances, or commodes
should be made prior to installation. Stereos, computers, and
other electronic equipment should also be moved before the time
of installation. Any wires that are tucked under or along the
baseboards need to be clearly marked so that they are not damaged
during demo or installation. If you need wires below the carpet
your salesperson will need written directions. There may will
be an additional charge and there will be know warranty on the
wires.
Scheduling
The prompt and professional installation of your floor covering
is always a top priority! You can expect your floor covering to
be professionally installed on schedule. However, on very rare
occasions, the date or time may need to be changed due to circumstances
beyond our control.
Please be aware the following procedures are not included in
our installation services. Arrangements for these are the responsibility
of our customer...
- Re-installing quarter-round molding. We will remove your quarter-round,
but cannot be responsible for re-installing. Frequently, molding
which has been installed for several years cannot be satisfactorily
re-installed and may break during removal. We will be as careful
as possible.
- Removing and re-installing commodes or other plumbing fixtures.
Certain resilient floor installations require removal of a commode.
Our installers are not licensed or qualified to perform this service.
If in doubt as to whether your installation requires advanced
plumbing work, contact your salesperson or our Service Department.
- Cutting doors to clear new floor covering. Frequently, installation
of new carpet or vinyl will prevent doors from swinging or sliding
freely. You should have a qualified carpenter cut your doors prior
to our installation if possible.
- Disconnecting gas and water hook-ups. (If included on your order
as a separate charge, we will move your disconnected appliances,
but cannot be responsible for the hook-ups.)
- Disconnecting and re-connecting ice-makers. (Beware! If your refrigerator
has not been moved recently, stretching the ice-maker coils to
move the refrigerator may cause a leak.)
- Removing an existing resilient floor covering which may contain
asbestos. We can install new underlayment over, or "float" your
old resilient floor to prepare for new floor covering. If removal
of an existing floor containing asbestos should become necessary
during installation, you will need to arrange for this work to
be done by a certified abatement specialist.
About Your Old Carpet...
Hauling your old carpet away is not included with "take-up",
unless listed as a separate charge on your order. If requested,
we will cut your old carpet into manageable pieces so that your
own trash hauler can remove them.
Please be aware that the following conditions may exist
immediately after installation:
Seams: Seams will be professionally installed but will not be
invisible. Some materials hide seams better than others. Ask your
salesperson where seams will be placed.
Shedding: Your new carpet will shed small bits of fibers for
up to six months. Do not be alarmed if your vacuum fills up quickly.
Roll Marks: You may see shaded areas or lines across the width
of your new carpet. These result from the weight of the carpet
resting on itself during storage. These marks will disappear in
time with normal traffic and vacuuming. During the cold, dry months,
these marks may be particularly stubborn. If roll marks are still
visible after 90 days, please call our customer service department
or your sales person.
Woodwork: We will be very careful to avoid damage to your baseboards
and other woodwork while delivering and installing your floor
covering. Some scuffing of woodwork may be unavoidable. We cannot
be responsible for minor touch-up which may be required.
Bubbles: You may notice some bubbles form under your new resilient
floor (most notably interflex vinyl products). This is normal
and these bubbles should disappear within three weeks. If they
persist beyond that time, please call our customer service department
or your sales person.
